Energy Balance at the Crossroads: Translating the Science into Action

Washington, DC, USA
August 28, 2014

This is a joint webcast presented by ILSI North America, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American College of Sports Medicine, and the International Food Information Council.

The balance of energy intake and energy expenditure are of significant importance for weight control. Thus, there should not be a debate over which is more important, but rather how to appropriately blend these components of energy balance for optimal weight regulation. Experts in the fields of nutrition and exercise science presented a unified perspective that identifies the biological, lifestyle and environmental changes that will most successfully help children and families tip the scale toward healthier weights. Insights from IFICF consumer research highlight public perception and challenges of following diet and exercise guidance to achieve energy balance.

This webcast discussed the research reported in the July 2014 issues of the Journal of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, that is an outcome of the October 2012 expert panel meeting titled “Energy Balance at the Crossroads: Translating the Science into Action” hosted by American College of Sports Medicine, Academy of Nutrition Dietetics and ILSI North America.
